Good Food Shop

Good Food Shop - an independent York delicatessen and store established in 1987 - needed a new website to boost functionality and improve design, facilitating a more seamless experience making it more visible and trusted by users. It needed to represent the brand of its new owners, while adding indispensable on-page features to optimise its search engine visibility.

The Client: Good Food Shop

This was a redesign and redevelopment project for an existing Umbraco website to reflect the new ownership of the York deli, Good Food Shop.

The goal - to revamp the brand and present the new products this deli is now serving. We were able to make these products available online for users to browse, creating a search engine optimised presence that’s both seamless for the user, and makes vital content visible to local users without additional steps.

The new branding guidelines and logo assets were provided to us by the owners. Taking this brief, we used Umbraco CMS to guide the website design process and deliver mobile responsiveness.

Since their content is succinct, we were able to upload it to the CMS quickly and deliver a streamlined, SEO optimised website in an equally time and cost-efficient manner.

How We Did It: The Website Development Process

Taking the previous version of the website, we uncovered several key areas for a better user journey.

These included increasing the responsiveness of web design and mobile friendliness, implementing high-quality photography to the site without slowing down page speed, and solidifying customer trust through significant API integration.

The Results:

Mobile Responsive Website

Since mobile phones are such a huge part of how local users discover delis like Good Food Shop, I‑Finity always builds for mobile first, leading to a fully responsive website that doesn’t lose out on functionality, and that works seamlessly with design. It was fundamental to ensure the interface worked as well for smaller screens as desktops and laptops, which we achieved through Umbraco and Microsoft Azure Cloud.

Direct Access to Content

We understand users are more likely to visit food shops and delis if they can access menu content directly, so we implemented online menu access through the CMS, making this content discoverable via search engines. That way, users searching for specific products are more likely to encounter Good Food Shop when looking locally.

Seamless Customer Experience

With online menus available, users no longer need to download PDF menus to see what’s on offer removing a step to access products. Plus, we completed a technical checklist for the website, and completed it using Microsoft Azure and Umbraco CMS, streamlining the experience.

Online Product Orders

As we progressed with the interface, we were able to uncover new business areas. Chiefly, allowing customers to order hampers and platters online for in-store pick-up and home delivery. Their ability to purchase gifts and care packages means the client can sell products seasonally, and users can make secure purchases.

PayPal Integration

Using our expertise of API and system integrations, we always aim to provide a more connected customer experience. For Good Food Shop, we implemented online payments via PayPal along with the ability to submit any special instructions for items being delivered and collected.

By integrating a secure and widely recognised online payment system, purchases are easy and trusted, allowing the use of credit cards, debit cards, and PayPal accounts without making users enter sensitive information directly onto the website.

Better Advertising

One of our core strengths is blending design features without impeding functionality. We aim to craft the best design possible. Using Umbraco CMS, we added professional photography, making the products, deli, and offers aesthetically attractive to potential users. Central to this was the use of strong food photography throughout the website, which we were able to upload to the CMS without slowing page speed and website functionality.

Owner Control

With access to Umbraco’s intuitive content editing tools, the Good Food Shop now has administrative power over all their website content. The addition of long-term monitoring through Google Analytics means that they can add additional content when they need to and use its tools to track the success of individual pages and use their findings to craft it further in the future.

Technology Profile: Umbraco CMS

Umbraco is a high-powered CMS great for managing and updating website content with its intuitive tools. You don’t have to be a technical expert to use Umbraco, but I-Finity’s aim is functionality at a high level that our clients can take over once we’ve shown them the ropes. With full access and greater understanding, Good Food Shop can leverage its capabilities for an optimised.

Our Azure expertise allowed us to make the website scalable, secure, and reliable. The client’s website was not overly complex, making Azure’s intuitive cloud hosting abilities more than sufficient for all design, functionality, and security purposes.

Our API integrations allow you to connect new systems from different providers, and there is always a way to do it. We ensured a reliable, efficient connection with Good Food Shop’s PayPal integration.
